The Sanctuary of the Self is an installation created by Clap Studio for Homapal as part of CasaDecor 2026 in Madrid. The project takes one of the most symbolically loaded spaces in the contemporary home — the bathroom — and turns it into a reflection on something universally familiar: the need to project an image outward, to seek validation in how others see us.
Homapal's reflective surfaces line the space from floor to ceiling, wrapping around the visitor the moment they step inside. As they move through it, their image multiplies, shifts and distorts. The body searches instinctively for the right angle, the most flattering version of itself, an everyday impulse, almost unconscious, that the installation quietly brings into focus.
At a certain point, the space interrupts. Words appear across the reflective surfaces: This is also you. This is enough. Still you. A pause embedded in the architecture, a reminder that fragmented or distorted reflections are not failures of the image. They are part of who we are.
The journey ends at the bathtub and two sinks that anchor the space, where water moves to the rhythm of an original composition written for the installation. The reflections on its surface ripple, break apart and re-form in a continuous loop, drawing on the myth of Narcissus and pulling it into the present. Even in motion, even in water, those shifting reflections are still us.
